i would appreciate any assistance with reading & translating the language:

"....detta casa, ???? infermo(?) ????gravata???, di un maschio.....il nome Grazio..."

is this something about someone being sick?

thanks so much,

living in this house, now ill and burdened with a male infant (referring to the mother who just gave birth) to whom is given the name Orazio.

domiciliato in detta casa, attualmente infermo si e` gravata (there is another letter before the word gravata, but I can't make out what it is) di un maschio che a cui e stato dato il nome di Orazio

thanks so much. this makes a lot of sense. this is the last child i have been able to find, and she was dead by the marriage of her first daughter in 1818.

is this something is that common on birth records....noting that the mother is ill and burdened with the child?

thanks again,
donna

In my close to 20 years of working with these kinds of records, I don't recall ever seeing anything like this. This is a first for me.

The sentence is "...attualmente infermo, si è sgravata...".
"Infermo"="ill" is referred to the father, who could not declare the birth. "Si è sgravata" is referred to the mother and means "gave birth" (from "gravida"="pregnant", with the same origin from "grave"="weight", literally "set herself free from a weight")

Thanks for clarifying the meaning for us. I kept thinking yesterday that the letter s was in the front of the word gravata, but I couldn't find a definition of the word which made sense to me. When I looked at the record again late last night, I even thought that the word infermo was masculine, and not feminine as in inferma, and might be referring to the father. I almost edited my post last night, but then decided to leave it alone hoping that someone else would see it and change it. Great job!
