Ragonese Family Name

Post by cdar1231 »

Greetings to All,

Like many new genealogists located in the US, I’ve hit that proverbial wall that is the Atlantic Ocean. I have not been able to find out any information about my family before they came to the US. Furthermore, due to circumstances within my own family, I only have spotty information on the family in the US outside my immediate family.

I am looking for Ragonese family members. I am the great grandson of Salvatore Ragonese (13 Jan 1888 - 7 May 1958). He had a sister, Maria, and two brothers, Ferdinand and Carmine. Thanks to ancestry.com, I have made contact with a wonderful member of Carmine’s descendants, Mrs Addie Rogan, and now we are both trying to go back further. Salvatore and his siblings were the children of Giuseppe Ragonese and Lucia Di Pasquale but that is all I know.

If anyone out there can help fill in blacks moving backward or forward in time or is a descendant of Giuseppe and Lucia, I welcome hearing from you.

Thank you in advance to everyone who replies,

chris ragonese

Thank you so much for this information. I am going to go through it all. I had seen some of this census information before but was never quite sure it was the correct Ferdinand Ragonese but the arrival information really helps tie the pieces together. Thank you again!!

Suanj...
Thank you soooo much for your help!! We are REALLY interested in the Ancestors. The names Giuseppe Ragonese and Lucia Di Pasquale...we found on Salvatore Ragonese death certificate. However we have NOT been able to get to 'Italy' with those names. To our knowledge they never came to the states. Are there other avenues to check out?? We are members on ancestry.com as well, but have not found anything on them there either. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give us!

"A Genealogist's Guide to Discovering Your Italian Ancestors" by Lynn Nelson is an invaluable book to have if you are new to reading the Italian records. Good luck in your search.

Based on additional information found with the help of many of you, it now seems that this Ragonese family lived in Mondragone before coming to the US but may have actually been from Castelforte. I hope that this new information will help find additional clues. Again, thank you to all in advance.

I received this very kind lead toward more potential information but -- and this is where i betray my newbie status -- i have no idea what to do with it. Ideally i'd like to learn how to use these resources myself but i don't know how to get started.
