i have made contact with a "cousin" (our GGG grandfathers were brothers) and there is a book written in italian that he sent me. it is about him but covers family genaeology. I am "reading" this by typing paragraphs into google translator.
there is a particular phrase that has been repeated a few times....'albero degli zoccoli'
that according to google is 'tree of wooden clogs'
i would appreciate a translation of what this is actually to mean.
thanks,
donna

The phrase comes from the following film:

"one of the landowner's trees is cut down to furnish wood for the clog sandal of a peasant child."

thanks, erudita. this puts the use of the phrase in perspective, given the context in which it is used in the book. looks like an interesting movie to give an idea of life at that time in Italy.
i appreciate your broad knowledge as it has contributed a great deal to my learning.
