Hi, I am in the process of gathering documents for dual citizenship and I am stuck on the Italian places of birth and marriage. My grandfather told me his father's side is from Calabria, but he has no specific information. My ggparents, Domenico and Angelina Surace immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1898. I have found information that my ggmother's maiden name may be Calciano, Casciano, or Cussano. Domenico (Dominick) was born in 1871 and Angelina in 1873, and they married in 1897. They had several children born in NY, and my ggrandfather James was born in 1899. If anyone is related or has any info to share about birth and/or marriage cities, it would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Surace of Calabria
That is such a great jumping point! I checked the Ellis Island records under multiple name variations and could not find anything. But this seems correct, especially with her maiden name as Casciano and that they came from Calabria and headed to Brooklyn. And now that I have a city of Gallico to work with, I think I will be able to find the records I need. Thank you so much!

Re: Surace of Calabria
Just observing the surname and Calabria. I remember growing up in the Bronx, we had neighbors with the wife having her maiden name as "Suraci" (spelling variation). They were from the Reggio Di Calabria part of Italy. Her family settled in Upstate New York when they first came over. Seems there was a large community of "Suraci" Calabrese in Gloversville and Johnstown, New York back then.
