Help finding a Difabio Please!!

Post by jguizio »

I have been helped tremendously by the kind people on this site so here is another request.
I am looking for information on Jennie Guizio (giuzio), specifically her birth certificate, parents names and where they were from in Italy. Her maiden name was Difabio. I have an old social security card of hers that says Giovannia E. Giuzio. She was born in 1892 I believe in New York, possibly Mount Vernon or New Rochelle. She was married to Salvatore Frank Giuzio and they lived in Weehawken NJ. She had my grandfather Domenick (named later changed to donald) in Lodi NJ at 293 Westminster Pl. May 15th 1918. She also had a son Carmen and a son Richard. I found census records of an Antoinette Difabio living at this same address where my grandfather was born, with some adult children but no Jennie. I think she may be her mother. Basically I can't find any record of Jennie before she was married so I dont know where she was born. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you all so much! That is definitely her in the 1900 census because she did have a sister Lena! My dad was surprised to hear she was living in a children's home. It seems maybe her parents were deceased and Dominick and Mary (antoinette) are relatives or maybe they were her parents but couldn't care for them at the time. This is even more of a mystery now! Do you all think I should look in New Rochelle for her birth certificate since that's where Michael was born?

Hi, maybe you can search as first option, in Mount Vernon NY, because:

U.S., World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 about Joseph Defabia
Name: Joseph Defabia
County: Bergen
State: New Jersey
Birthplace: New York,United States of America
Birth Date: 17 Dec 1894
Race: Caucasian (White)
Draft Board: 4

born in Mount Vernon...
it can be probable that Domenick and Antoinette/Mary was the Jennie parents... you can read abt St Joseph home here http://westchesterarchives.com/ht/muni/wca/census.html
on this website are the pictures of 1905 census St Joseph Home and I no found Jennie...

Great news! The registrar called this morning to say she had found the birth certificate of Jennie. I went to Mount Vernon this afternoon to fill out a form to request it from the state because she said it was too old for her to do it. She had the book on her desk but wouldn't let me see it :( Anyway she did tell me that her name on the birth certificate was Giovannina Di Fabio, born 12/25/1892 (Christmas!)and her parents were Domenick Di Fabio and Antonia Capucilli. I believe the Italian surname is really Cappuccilli and I have seen this name and DiFabio in conjunction with the town Ripabottoni in Molise, so I'm guessing they are probably from there but I can't find any passenger records. It seems they indeed are the Domenick and Antoinette from Lodi New Jersey. Still a mystery as to why the girls were in the Children's home in 1900. If you dig up anymore info on Domenick or Antonia let me know! Thanks again for all your help Susan!

Great!
Cappuccilli is the right italian spelling! And Ripabottoni could be the right birthplace.. I believe that the girls was in Children's Home in 1900 because the parents at this time had some problem... Domenico Di Fabio and Antonia or Mariantonia/Maria Antonia Cappuccilli must be immigrated before of 1890...

If they married in Italy or in USA it is a mystery... I believe they married in Italy and after the marriage they immigrated in USA ....
just a search in Ripabottoni civil records can give us the right reply...
I cannot find the family in 1900 NY census as a well the 1910 NJ census...

I searched in Ripabottoni marriage indexes from 1886 to 1895 and no a Domenico Di Fabio married.. but in the marriage index of 1876,
I found Domenico Filomeno FABIO married at Antonia Maria CAPPUCCILLI
Ripabottoni marriage 28 dec 1876 #46

groom: FABIO Domenico Filomeno 20 old, farmer, born and resident in Ripabottoni son of late Giovanni FABIO and of late Arcangela PADUANO

bride: CAPPUCCILLI Antonia Maria 17 old, farmer, born and resident in Ripabottoni, daughter of late Carolina CAPPUCCILLI ( Antonia Maria father was unknown)

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
right page...

so the right surnames spelling is FABIO and CAPPUCCILLI

probably some child was born in Ripabottoni...
Domenico was born around 1856 and Antonia Maria around 1859..
