Giovanni Capozzoli

Post by lace115 »

My grandfather Giovanni Capozzoli was born in Aquara Italy on March 13, 1891 to Antonio Capozzoli and Rosaria Palamone. I have been unable to ascertain whether he had any siblings or whether Rosaria was still alive at the time he came to the US in 1909. Any ideas?

Hi Linda,

if this 1909 arrival manifest is the correct one, then Giovanni stated that his nearest relative in Italy was his father Antonio and that he was going to meet his brother Lucio in Washington PA:

From Ancestry.com:

Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1945

Name: Giovanni Capozzoli
Arrival Date: 9 Oct 1909
Age: 18 Years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1891
Gender: Male
Ethnic Background: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Ancona
Port of Arrival: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Friend's Name: Lucio Capozzoli
Last Residence: Italy
Birthplace: Aguara, Italy
Microfilm Roll Number: T840_70

imagine of the arrival manifest from Familysearch.org:

Thanks Laura,

I did find that manifest. I assume it was my Giovanni because of the references to his father Antonio. I have done a great deal of searching and cannot confirm that he had a brother Lucido. I would love to search the Aquara records to prove it one way or the other. The trail seems to end in the US for Lucido Capozzoli. I also wonder if Lucido was a friend. Giovanni's naturalization papers were witnessed by Lucido Consolmagno in 1927. The naturalization papers show that he arrived in Philly on October 25, 1919. At some point he may have gone back to Italy and then returned to the US in 1919.
Any thoughts?

Have you seen this manifest?
Lucido (transcribed Luerdo) Capozzoli - arrival BOSTON, Feb 1910
Place of birth - Aquara
Leaving wife Rosaria in Aquara
Destination - friend Giovanni Inglese in Pittsburgh, PA
Indicates that he has made several trips to US before... 1892, 1899, 1904(?)
His age is difficult to read. Looks like 40, but transcribed as 20. :-(

I did,I just can't confirm that he was related to Giovanni. The original manifest of Giovanni in 1909 shows his brother's name as Lucio. I could not find Lucio and thought it could be Lucido. No one in the family knew if Giovanni had any siblings. I don't know of any links to MA. This manifest of Lucido shows an arrival after Giovanni. It seems to be a mystery that is driving me crazy.

But it states that he made several trips before this arrival :-)

Hi Linda,

I've been researching my Aquara Capozzoli's and found info on Giovanni's brothers and poss. father's parents. I'm going to try to send you a private message. If you don't get it, but you see this post, let me know and I'll try to email the info. to you or just paste it here.

Lucido Capozzoli whose WWI draft card was posted on this thread by Tessa is, I believe, a relative of mine.

Good luck with your search,
Anufar
