Maucieri / Santoianni / Donofrio

Post by JMaucieri »

Hello all. I'm new :) I did creep through previous posts on these names (Maucieri / Santoianni) and MAYBE some are a match, but I have such little information that I cannot be certain. Lots of railroad workers here.

Here's what I know:
My grandparents came from Italy (Bonefro) to Western PA (Altoona): Maria Graza Santoianni (b1898) and Nicola Maucieri (b1891). They married shortly after she came in early 1917 (and my dad, Anthony, was born late in 1917, but that's another story :) ). I do not know when Nicola came, but I'd not imagine super long prior given that they had met in Italy (families knew each other). Nicola came with his half/step brother Francesco Vestri (spelling?).

Maria's parents were Francesco Santoianni and Lucia Donofrio. Both of which also came to the states to my understaning. Francesco died somewhere near Pittsburgh of pneumonia. Lucia came over with her son, my grandmother's brother, Michele (Michael) and they eventually headed to the New Rochelle, NY area. Michael's children: Frank and Lucy. Lucy became a Vaccaro.

Nicola's parents were Giuseppe Maucieri and Antoinette ? They did not come to the states.

Here's what I'd love to find out:
Basically anything beyond what is above, but... I'd love to find:
- Antoinette's maiden name
- When Francesco died and where he was buried in the Pburgh area
- When Nicola came to the states for certain

If ANY of these tidbits strike with anything you've found in your research I would so appreciate the lead. It's very frustrating to find a depth of my Gx13Grandparents on my mother's side and not be able to get past my GGrandparents on my father's side.

Wow! Who would expect 4 replies within 12 hours. You folks are amazing! :) Thank you for this warm welcome!!!

suanj, I do not believe the Nicola you are referring to is one in the same. My grandfather's birthdate has been confirmed through a remaining Aunt as Feb 20, 1891 and his mother Antoinette.

I did find the census info on Lucy from 1940 and that all lines up. It is very possible that Francesco did not pass in Pburgh, but that is what my Aunt had in her head. Perhaps it was someone else.

The link to the birth record for Maria Grazia... Oh my!!

Marty, the additional records on Lucia's parents... double OH MY!!

I can't wait to get home from work to look closer.

as a well nobody Nicola Maucieri was born in 1892 ... here the 1892 births index:
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

death act:

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 1.jpg.html

I meant no disrespect in my previous reply. I hope I did not offend.

Do understand this information haw blown my mind as it wiped out some of what I thought I knew to be true... and I cannot wait to take some of these details to my Aunt to see what might mean something to her.

The other good news is I am getting a little practice with Italian as I am interpretting these documents.

Thank you again for taking the time to help a stranger.
God bless!

Another thank you Marty! To think I've gone from just having a couple first names to knowing then names and some dates associated with my GGG - just wow!

So, it hit me last night laying in bed to go to the date I had previously believed my grandfather was born in the records. Well, sure enough there is a Nicola, but with another last name. On the side there is a note written about him marrying my grandmother giving her name and the date I had. Within the main record I do see Antonia (recall I was looking for a mother's name of Antoinette).

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

Could someone tell me what would being born into this other surname typically "mean" in Italy?!

I may not speak the language, but what I could get from here was pointed me to something as such. I appreciate the confirmation of the content Marty.

So I would guess she was unmarried (same surname as her father). had Nicola and gave him over to the Aniceto family. I can only imagine the scandal this would be, no?

I'm betting I'll find an entry somewhere for Maria Antonina marrying and having a child with a Vestry/Vestri. So much digging to do!

Hello,

As I am new to this all and reading over the information provided. I am trying to find some clarity while reasearching my ancestors, I had a question- is there any information that someone can provide on Giuseppe Maucieri who married Carmela Colabella and if they had any children?

If I’m reading these comments correctly, it sounds like after Carmela passed away Giuseppe married Maria Antonina? Did Maria Antonina marry/have relations with any other men prior to her marriage. It appears she had one child: Nicola. Just curious if there was any other children? I’m intrigued there’s no record of Nicola’s biological father.

Thank you!
