GF Divorced & Remarried Later in Life - Need Documents?

Post by emmyc »

My grandfather (who our genealogy is being traced through) divorced and remarried much later in life, when my mother was in her mid-twenties. On his death certificate it states that his wife is the woman he remarried. Do I need to produce the divorce and marriage certificates to prove genealogy? It seems like this shouldn't have to do with our bloodline but from other posts is appears that the consulate might want them for citizenship anyways. Thoughts?

it depends which consulate maybe? we had the same situation and got all of the documents just so that we wouldn't be told at our appointment we needed to get them and come back. we are going through nyc and they are super picky about everything, but i would suggest having them just in case.
