My grandfather was Michele Maltese. He immigrated the first time from Barano, Ischia. He went back and married my grandmother and that time he immigrated from Forio, Ischia. Ischia is an island off the coast of Naples. They lived in Philadelphia for a while before moving to New Jersey. Michele's father was Luigi Maltese and Luigi had a brother named Tomaso Maltese. I do not know who Luigi's wife was but there is a possibility that she was French. Michele was born in 1886, Luigi about 1859 and Tomaso about 1856.
