Durante/Rossi/D'Onofrio

Post by rossim2005 »

I'm new to this site and was excited to stumble into it! I am hitting the proverbial "brick wall" with these four names Durante/Rossi/D'onofrio/Bianchi. They all seem to have immigrated to the US from the Campobasso Region. Looking for any information for the following:

Antonio Rossi and Teressa Bianchi (b about 1850-1870 ish)
children: Giuseppe b1890 - (I have his information)
Felicia B. unknow (immigrated at some point to Argentina?)
Rose B.1892 (I have some of her information)

I am looking for any records that would give me Antonio's birth/marriage/death etc and his wife Teresa (terresina?) Bianchi with her birth/death information. I am stuck on finding their parents information. I've been searching ancestry.com and familysearch.com. no real luck - but I don't speak or read Italian either!

Also looking for:

Michele Durante b. about 1850 and Marrianna D'Onofrio b24 Oct 1848.
Children: John b. unknown
Michele b. 1884
Gaetana B 1887
Josephine B1892 (my Great Grandmother)
Terresina B 1895

It is recorded that Marrianna came over from Campobasso region and was shown as a widow in 1905 on the NY passenger lists. Don't know anything about Michele. Don't know anything about either parents.

Taking a shot in the dark here to see if anyone has any additional info they would care to share.

Thanks!

Hi,

Michelino DURANTE born in Lucito ( Campobasso province) on 30 sep 1884 # 97 son of Michele Durante 35 old ( son of late Francesco Durante) and of Marianna D'Onofrio 29 old (daughter of Florestano D'Onofrio)
birth act:
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

I believe that this record is abt Marianna also if the first name is a bit different, but it is the only baby girl D'Onofrio born in 1855 and with father named Florestano...
Mariagiuseppa D'ONOFRIO birth act:
born in Lucito on 23 Apr 1855 #43 daughter of Florestano D'Onofrio 23 old and Maria Giacomodonato 23 old

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

a Marianna D'Onofrio was born in Lucito in 1848 but with different father name..

Marriage: Lucito 8 Sep 1876 #24

groom: Michele Arcangelo Durante 26 old born and resident in Limosano, son of late Francesco durante and of living Gaetana De Angelis

bride: Marianna D'onofrio 24 old born and resident in Lucito, daughter of Florestano d'Onofrio and Maria Giacomodonato

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
so Marianna really on the birth act was named Mariagiuseppa and called Marianna simply...

Michele Arcangelo DURANTE Birth act: Limosano 18 Oct 1849 #83
son of Francesco Durante 36 old and Gaetana De Angelis 27 old

well in Petrella Tifernina ( very close to Limosano) I found:
RUSSO Giuseppe born in Petrella Tifernina on 24 Feb 1890 son of Antonio Russo and Paola Teresa Bianco

I believe right person... the surname changed at Rossi but I know no when and if it is a error made from who wrote the ship's manifest...
If you can give me more details abt his sister Rose b. 1892 ( she was no born in Petrella Tifernina or Limosano.. I believe that the family moved in some commune near Petrella Tifernina.. in 1906 they lived in Limosano... Antonio Russo profession was a macaroni maker, pasta maker and I believe that in the old past time, all italians was able to make the pasta, so Antonio maybe no had much luck with work and moved from a commune in another searching better business...)
so if you have info on Rose let me know...
best regards,

According to the information I've found, Rose was born May 5th 1892 in Campobasso Region. She arrived in the United States in 1912 according to the 1920 US Federal Census. Here she married Peter Pirro (or Pierro, or Perro - there are several different spellings) on July 31st 1919. She lived most of her adult life in Schenectady, New York. I'm still digging for information as I just recently found her.

Thanks!

Hi Michael, I found this possible arrival:
First Name: Rosina
Last Name: Rossi
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian South
Last Place of Residence: Petrella, Italy
Date of Arrival: Nov 04, 1911
Age at Arrival: 19y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Duca degli Abruzzi
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0029

born in Petrella Tifernina....
http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipM ... 0519%2ETIF
but in Petrella Tifernina on 5 May 1892 nobody Rosina Rossi or Russo.. here the 1892 Birth index: "R"
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 3.jpg.html

ditto in 1893 births
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 0.jpg.html
and also no result in 1891 births

BUT in 1894 births I found:
Grazia Gaetana Russo born in Petrella Tifernina on 14 nov 1894 #90 daughter of Antonio Russo and Paola Teresa Bianco; the informant was the midwife in place of Antonio Russo, because he was in America (USA)..

so in 1894 Antonio was in USA...
