missing town of Ribattali

Post by carchidi »

according to US Citizenship records John Rodia was born 1881 in Ribattali, Italy. I searched everywhere and cannot find this town. I tried variant spellings with no luck, he immigrated from Naples, his cousin Carmine Rodia was born in Serino, Avellino, Campania, I looked on a map of Italy for towns near Serino to see if anything came close to being spelled Ribattali. Is it possible the name of the town has changed or the town became extinct?

thanks for any assistance,

Ed

Post the immigration entry record, maybe someone can decipher the handwriting.

Good possibility; there are 182 listings for Rodia in the Italian telephone directory, 34 of which are in Serino. http://www.paginebianche.it/ricerca?qs= ... erino&l=en

Just FYI, the famous Simon Rodia, creator of the Watts Towers in Los Angeles also hails form Serino.
