Looking for Scapino or Facciano information

Post by sscapino »

I am trying to find information on my grandfather's parents. They were from Caluso. Pietro Scapino was born in 1880 and came to the US in 1906. He died in 1914 in the US. He married Rosa Facciano, born 1883 also in/near Caluso. I believe her father's name is Andrea Facciano. I have tried every avenue possible, to no avail. Help!

On the 1906 ship manifest, Pietro was going to Cardiff, Illinois, to brother "Anselmo Scapino"

Located this 1910 ship manifest for ANSELMO SCAPINO, age 43, miner...
Arriving NY from Havre, on s/s Chicago, 22 Nov 1910
From Caluso, leaving wife "Scapino" in Caluso (Torino)
Going to join son, Pietro Scapino in Cardiff, Illlinois :-)

POSSIBLE WWI Registration Card for brother --- Charly Anselmo Scapino --- in Illinois

U.S., World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 about Charly Amselmo Scapino
Name: Charly Amselmo Scapino
County: Montgomery
State: Illinois
Birth Date: 12 Mar 1876
Draft Board: 20

POSSIBLE earlier trip (1898, on line 16) for Anselmo Scappino (spelled with 2 "p" in Caluso, and on this earlier manifest), age 31, going to Coal City, Illinois. Appears to be traveling with his brother Pietro Scappino, age 43 (line 14). This is indicated in the far right columns for destination...

This Anselmo would have been born around 1867... doesn't look like a possible father for your Pietro... but I would hold on to the record for a possible "connection" at a later time.
HOWEVER, the Pietro Scappino on this manifest would have a DOB about 1855...

Just saw your Family Tree on Ancestry

Thanks so much. I did see that info on Ancestry, but the ages of the travelers tripped me up, too. The area that they traveled to is similar so I'm sure there's a connection, but I can't seem to find it. I appreciate your efforts!

Have you tried following the "Charly" Anselmo Scapino trail?
Maybe more records are available for him...
For instance, if he had a Social Security Card, he had to complete the SS-5 application. It should have his parents' names. You can request a copy of this record (for a fee)

What I would do is rent and view the Family History Library microfilm of the Registri ecclesiastici di Caluso (Torino), 1577-1899 and get the church records of your family

ORDERING FILMS FROM FHL

If you need help translating a record just post it on here there a lot of good researchers on here to help.
