Re: Death Document
None of the four documents is the right one.
Re: Death Document
As Marcello stated, none of these are correct...
You said:
Page1 - both are from August 1852
Left is for Agostina Gentile whose mother was Antonia Spicuzza
Right is very difficult to read. Looks like Michela Rocca, age 23
Page 2 - both are dated July 1851
Left is for Mariana Todaro
Right is for Rosalia Scialabba, widow of Salvadore Giuffre

Re: Death Document
When I looked at this earlier I read Marianna's surname as "Sodaro"? I've just checked some indices of Termini and this was a name in the town back then. Possibly "Todaro" was also but didn't see this surname.erudita74 wrote:I read:

I can't decipher what it says before Antonino either.

I also saw that there was the Sodaro surname in the town. T originally typed Todaro, which is also a surname there. I think the problem is that little line coming off of the initial letter-so I really wasn't sure which way to go.

Re: Death Document
I totally agree. But looking the other "S" in the document, it seems more a "S" than a "T". Anyway, maybe that little line was a correction made by the officer. In this case, the last name is Todaro.erudita74 wrote:Angela

Re: Death Document
Since Antonino was a cooper (bottaio), I think the word before Antonino is a shorthened form of "mastro", master.AngelaGrace56 wrote:I can't decipher what it says before Antonino either.

Re: Death Document
Sure, it's quite deceptive with that mark. I'm still with the "S" though.erudita74 wrote:Angela

I believe the spelling of Giuseppa's surname is "Russitano".
How are things? Been thinking of you. Will send you a message at the weekend

My original feeling was that it was an S and now that I've looked more closely at all the other words in the document that start with T, I do think it is supposed to be Sodaro. I think Marcello's last statement is confusing-self-contradictory to me.
