Anyone familiar with the name Vite

Post by rancelli »

An old obituray that I have the persons name says Vitea, but I think it was supposed to be Vite. Do you know if that's another form of the name Vittorio? I found the name Vittorio online and it does list Vite as another form but I'm not sure how accurat that is. My uncle went by the name Victor.

At this site:
http://www.daddezio.com/roots/italgen.mv

If you put in the American name Victor... you get an Italian equivalent of Vittore

I've seen Italian names abbreviated... such as "Ant" with a raised "o" after it for "Antonio" ... and "Dom" with a raised "co" for "Domenico" --- Maybe Vite is an abbreviation of Vittore

This site lists both Vittore and Vittorio

Hi,
in Italian:
Vito ( male)
Vita (Female)

meaning and origin: first name from old Saxony language, and it was latin word:
"Vicus" =warlike, bellicose

Vittorio/Vittore (male)
Vittoria (female)

meaning and origin: from latin word: "Victor"= Victorius

In italian language Vite does not exist..

To add to what Tessa and Suanj said, I often check the
Stephen Morse site for this sort of information.
