Giuseppe (Joseph) Rizzo

Post by Rizzo »

I am looking for birth records for Giuseppe (Joseph) Rizzo. Born is Salaparuta 10-AUG-1881 son of Pietro (Peter) Rizzo, [b. OCT 1850, bp. Salaparuta] and Giuseppa (Josephine) Racagano [b. abt 1858]. He immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1892 aboard S.S. Tranacria.
He had 3 brothers Pietro, Antonio, and Forturnato.
Joseph Rizzo married Maria Viviano [b. abt 1881] daughter of Calogero Viviano and Angela Cascio [b. abt 1847] also from Salaparuta.
As you can see I have a lot of research ahead of me, so I would appreciate any information or guidance that would assist me.

Thanks

Records for Salaparuta for 1820-1910 can be found on microfilm (not on line) at
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog ... %20Library
You will need to order and search the films at one of the Family History Centers.

I would guess that the surname of Giuseppa was really Raccagno or Raccagna. That's how the name is currently spelled in Italy and how I've always seen it in Agrigento province, which is next to Trapani. Also, the name of Giuseppe's brother would've been Fortunato, without the second "r."
