Surname Question

Post by fjerome »

My Great Great Grandfather was born in Italy in 1852. Imig. in 1881. His name is Joseph Jerome. My searches for birth, baptisim, and marriage are coming up with nothing. I have used the Italian name for Joseph (Guiseppe). Is there another Italian name for Jerome?
This is so frustrating!

Was Jerome his surname?

Girolamo is the usual Italian equivalent of the English name Jerome, at least as a given name. In Latin it was Hieronymus. If that was his surname, he could've originally have had the name Di Girolamo or even De Hieronimis.
