Post by rlopatosky »

Researching my wife's genealogy.

Trying to find more information regarding the DiGilio from Accettura and / or San Mauro Forte. I have a DiGilio coming to the United States with a Giovanni Marchisella which is my wife's grandfather. Looking for relationship

It would be helpful if we could view the passenger list. What ship did he arrive on and what date? What was the first name of DiGilio? the ages of both at arrival?

SS.Canopic from Naples arriving at the port of Boston, Massachusetts on January 29, 1913. First name was Donato. Donato was 62 yrs. old and Giovanni Marchisella was 21.
For both the last permanent residence was San Mauro Forte
Relative for Giovanni was his mother, Angela. For Donato it was his wife Isabella.
Both were San Mauro Forte. For both, their final destination was Hartford, CT

Giovanni was to see his uncle, Vito Marchese.
Donato was to see his brother-in-law, Vito Marchese (if I read the manifest correctly)
Giovanni was born in San Mauro Forte. Donato was born in Accettura

Yes, that is what I see also.

Donato leaves his wife, Isabella in San Mauro Forte.
Giovanni leaves his mother, Angela, in San Mauro Forte.
Both are traveling to Hartford, CT - specifically 94 Walnut St.

What USA records do you have besides the manifest?

Is this your wife's grandfather in 1920 US Census?
Wife's name is Angelina
He is age 38, with immigration stated as 1913
She is age 24, with immigration in 1912.
Two daughters: Elizabeth, age 7; and Jean, age 2

It would appear that John/Giovanni and Angelina were married in US

i also have a ship passenger list from May 14, 1910.
Giovanni Marchisella birth year is correct. However, states last residence was Tricarico, Italy which is about 20 miles from San Mauro Forte.

As Donato was going to see his brother-in-law, Vito Marchese, in Hartford, CT. This would mean that his wife is a Marchese?

Forget my original comment. Vito Marchese married Donato's sister which makes them brothers-in-law

The question is about Giovanni Marchisella. How is he a nephew to Vito Marchese? We only know the mother to be Angela Marchisella. No father on the birth certificate
Are the chances good that Vito and Angela are brother and sister?

Are you asking if Vito Marchese and Angela Marchisella are siblings?

Does not seem likely... unless they have different fathers?

Can you post Giovanni's birth act?
