Cardano al Campo, Milan

Post by seabreezes1 »

I'm interested in tracing my heritage in Cardano al Campo, the home of both my maternal grandparents. They raised their family in Rockport, MA. Luigi's family settled in Quincy MA; Carlo's descendants in Lima Peru.

Carolina Morosi
DOB: 5 May 1886
Mom: Giuditta Zocchi
Dad: Venanzio Aspesi
Immigrated: 18 April 1909, Ellis Island
Siblings:
Teresa m. Luigi Ferrazzi (son of Angelo Ferrazzi & Madelana Caru)
Carlo m. ?. Dtr Carla m. Eliseo Rusconi (emigrated to Lima Peru in 1948)
Twin sisters by mom's 2nd husband - ? Macchi

Angelo Aspesi
DOB: 3 Dec 1882
Mom: Regina Ferrazzi (dtr of Angelo Ferrazzi & Madelana Caru)
Dad: Pietro Aspesi
Immigrated: 23 Oct 1903, Ellis Island
Siblings: Gaetano m. Giuseppina Morosi (Rockport, MA)

I know from historical records, that the Aspesi, Morosi & Ferrazzi families have been in Cardano al Campo since at least 1050. But I've gotten no further back in time than what I have listed above.

Thank you!

Does anyone know of any genealogical sources for Cardano al Campo?

I haven't been able to find any genealogy, yet I know that the Aspesi, Ferrazzi, Morosi and Caru families lived there for over a thousand years. I also know it was a plague town in the Great Plague of Milan in 1630 and was founded over 2,000 years ago at the intersection of 2 Roman roads.

See English insets: http://www.012345.com/guide/pdf/Cardano_al_Campo04.pdf

Thank you.

Cardano al Campo is in the province of Varese, Lombardy. 2 of the names you posted are among the most common.

It doesn't look like the Family History Center has records for this comune.

I know. I wrote to a couple of Italian offices last Sept, one for Cardano and one for Varese, but got no response. I also wrote to a family business in Cardano asking if they knew any Italian family amateur genealogists I could connect with - no response. LDS doesn't have any records that are helpful.

Yet, since Cardano only has a population of 12,000 and my family names are among the most numerous, I should be related to lots of people there. Hey, the mayor's last name is Aspesi.

And even if WWII destroyed most of their records, there are some. I'm kicking myself I didn't save the url for the eleventh century document I found on line a few months back that listed Cardano al Campo property or building owners and listed my family names. But it does exist, and if that exists, there has to be more. I just need to find a resource.

Thanks for looking~

Hi, my name is Marina Arbini (married Branzoni). I live in Ottawa, Canada but I was born in Italy and my paternal grandparents lived in Cardano al Campo, where I spent many summers.

My maternal grandfather (Tamolli) had a sister, Linda who married a Morosi. one of her children had an office store in Cardano al Campo for many years. I don't know if any of these is useful to you. Good luck in your search.
