help with a surname

Post by MauroMags »

Hello Genealogy masters,

I need help reading a section of a Atto di nascita of my great-great grandfather Francesco Amato from 1844

I understand 95% of it. I'm just having trouble figuring out Francesco's mother's maiden name.

I understand "e nato da Elisabetta (not legible) di Onofrio, sua moglie etc..."

Please help me with the non legible part

thank you much,
Mauro

I think the surname is D'Onofrio

I think it's a middle name (and not a surname) that needs to be figured out... I could be wrong...

Can anyone suggest...

How to create a link

I read:
Elisabetta Amabile D'Onofrio.

what throwing me off is the last letter looks like an "S" when you compare it with the "S" Elisabetta. Any suggestions on that last letter?

thanks again

I thought it was an "s" too... on the same line you see the words "sua moglia"...?

Did you get this document from film? If so, you might want to look at the index... if they had one.

Hi, about:
It is Amabile (Amabilis same in latin...)
this 2° first name is for an Madonna's attribute (Mater Amabilis= Madre Amabile= Amiable Mother);
about Amato that is an surname and also an first name, coming from AMATUS latin word= loved from God...
regards, suanj

Hi Cursio, hope I understand your question...

Not sure how MauroMags got his digital copy of the birth record at his Family History Center...

I asked MauroMags to send me the jpeg file via email... using PhotoShop I resized the image (1024k or less - for a reason...)...

Created different view sizes in PhotoShop as well... again keeping close to 1024k...

I use Image Shack to create an url that I can copy and paste into a forum reply or email...

Using a digital camera, I took a jpeg photo of a painting and then used Image Shack to do the rest.

Image Shack instructions here...

Am I close? It's past 2:00am... 8O If I have "missed the boat" I will reply again...

Mfjp,

I just wanted to update you. I'm pretty sure that the surname i could not read is:

Avellis

I found it on another record and that name does appear with some (albeit small) frequency in Molfetta.

Thanks again for your help

Mauro
