Lo Serio and Serio

Post by chickenwoman »

Hello,
On my gr grandparents marriage cert. my gr grandmother's name is listed as Lo Serio.
Later in some documents it is shortened to Serio. Can they be used interchangeably?

Thank you,
Diane

I could easily see that. Where did the marriage occur? I haven't been able to determine the meaning of the "Lo" prefix yet but prefixes were frequently dropped in America. I don't know without seeing documentation, but I would bet that LoSerio was the original surname.

Interesting question. My gal's uncle's middle name was Serio, but I've never heard anything about a possible "Lo" part when it comes to him...
