Looking for Ungari / DeVivo from Valenzano, Bari, Italy

Post by forestmaiden71 »

I'm looking for any information on either of these surnames. My great grandmother was Angela DeVivo (1891-1940) who married Joseph Ungari (1885-1966) before coming to the US. I only have their parent's names because I found their old Italian passports. But I know nothing else. I have tried looking on FamilySearch and Ancestry but have found nothing prior to them coming to the states. Is there any place else I should try looking that is for English speakers? Sadly I don't know any Italian or Spanish...
Thanks in advance for any/all help! It's so frustrating that it's not that far back!

You are AMAZING! Thank you SOOO VERY MUCH!

Quick question - I notice names like Nicola and Michele are shortened versions of longer names (Niccol'Antonio for one and Michelangelo for the other). Is this always the case? Like, are all Nicolas really Niccolantonios?

Thanks again! This was amazingly helpful!

Sometimes the shortened names are used like a nickname...or how they are known.
However, Nicola and Michele are also given names in and of themselves.
You have to see the official birth record to know the actual given name :-)

Glad to have helped! :-)
