Champ

Post by BrownEyedGirl »

Hi Everyone. It's nice to be here. This is my first time posting. It's a long-shot but I'm wondering if anyone could help.

My great great grandmother was named Marie Champ. She was born on March 25, 1871, in Italy. My great great grandfather (name unknown) passed away before Marie departed for the United States. Marie remarried a gentleman named Anthony Gallucci. So on to my questions . . .

Could you help me find the name and birth place of my great great grandfather with the little bit of info provided?

Also, Champ is actually a French surname. I'm aware that Italy borders France in the North, but my family is from Campania. Since Champ was Marie's maiden name and she used her married name, it wasn't shortened upon arrival to the United States UNLESS her brothers shortened it. I'm not sure (obviously) :? .

So my second question - Is Champ common anywhere in Italy? (My thoughts are that she may have been born in a Northern region.) Icing on the cake would be finding her birth information. :D

I deeply appreciate any help. Thank you!
For Europe, With Love.

Just for a help to find family, where did Mary and Anthony live?
When were they married?
When did she go to the USA?
Do you know when Anthony was born?

THANK YOU, both, very much for responding.

PIPPO, my great great grandma, Marie, and her second husband, Anthony, lived in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
They were married in 1911.
I believe Marie came over in 1900.
Anthony Gallucci was born in 1862 in Italy. City, unknown.
Anthony and Marie met and married here, in the U.S. When Marie came over from Italy, she was probably using her first husband's (my great great grandfather) surname. That's one of the things I'm trying to find.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

MARTY, I will research that name. Thank you for the suggestion!

Again, thank you for responding!

Hey brown eye girl, Anthony Gallucci was my great-great-grandfather! Look at my recent thread on where we are on tracking his family's down. My descendendts came through Anthony's first wife, Mary Baschetta (aka Bashett). Small world, eh? I included a link in that thread that goes back to our great-great-great-great Grandfather and grandmother. They were from the Caserta region, as far as we can tell.

Marie Champ was Ciampa, I think.

Hey, I received a report from the Pittsburgh Dioscese that has Antonio & Mary's info...here's what they found (I'm copy/pasting):

The Marriage Register of St. Vitus does include Antonio Gallucci’s second marriage on December 18, 1904 (all names are transcribed as recorded in the original Latin):
Antonio Galluccio, son of Raffaelo and Caterina Galluccio to
Maria Ciampa, daughter of Severino and Giovannina Scimia
Witnesses: Nicola DiIulio, Gaetana Obitoza [or Obitosa]

That may help trace things a bit more.

I found the civil marriage registration as well, which provides more details about Mary Ciampa...she was definitely from Italy, and had been married once before. Hope that helps a bit more.

Hi,
thanks, interesting... so Antonio Galluccio on 1900 was with the his first wife... instead on 1910 the second wife is Maria... I believe that she coming from L'Aquila province, maybe from Camarda town, and I searched on 1866 and no luck in New Castle, PA was also a Joseph Ciampa, I believe related to your Maria... and if she also was widow you don't know her first husband name? maybe she travelled under husband surname....
Best regards,
suanj
