PASSINI

Post by december84 »

I am looking for anyone with information about the Passini family. My great grandfather was Joseph Passini, his parents were Louis and Barbara. They came to the US around 1900 and moved to MO then later to IL. If anyone has any family trees that correspond to them please let me know. I've found almost nothing about them or where they were from in Italy. My great Aunt said that her father said they were Calabrese, but I don't know that for sure.
THanks!

Jospeh was born in 1905. I have the census records for when they were in the US, but I can't find out where they came from in Italy. Joseph was an only child (There was a son Umberto, but he died in MO and a daughter Mary but she also died) On the census records it says that Louis and Barbara came to the US at different times around 1900. Louis had brothers who also came over, one of them was named Charlie Passini, he had a wife named Elizabeth Bernardini. I don't know much more than that. It's very very hard to find anything. Supposedly we owned (probably not anymore) land with a well on it in Italy near a logging company. The Logging company requested that we let them use the land and we did as long as they let the people of the town still use the well. Don't know much else. Last time they got a letter about this logging company thing was in the 1960's I think.

Have you located ship manifest or searched for naturalization papers?
Naturalization would have occured after 1930 census, as Louis and Barbara
are listed as Alien........this would help to identify the town of origin,
what of the manifest provided by suanj..........

I found a census of interest, but am unable to view the actual full image,
1910......

Lewis Passini Nineveh Twp, Adair, MO abt 1870 White Male
Charley Passino Nineveh Twp, Adair, MO abt 1876 White Male

Using the census info you have, do you know if Charlie was naturalized?
Located a manifest on him? You must turn up one or the other to discover the town of origin.

Thanks Mfjp.......you are great at finding these manifest!!!!!!! :D

Given the number of Passini in Illinois, especially around Bureau
county, they were probably working the coal mines in that area.......lots of Northern Italians came to Illinois for that purpose.

I think so...

At first I was sure that this Luigi (on manifest) was the correct one...

But then I had doubts because he is now a little older than mentioned...

Luigi is off to see brother Carlo...
Barbara and daughter Rose is off to see hubby Luigi
Elizabeth is off to see cousin? Carlo

Charles is equivalent to Carlo...

I have yet to see a census record for any of these people... so I can't confirm anything... can only hope. I too couldn't view the census record (mentioned earlier on...) from Ancestry... all the names were cut off... ??

I hope I didn't confuse things... as now there are 3 towns of interest...

Now it is up to December84 to prove to herself that these may - or may not be her ancestors....

Wldspirit found this record... a manifest of interest she brought up through private messaging... and some forums won't even allow PM's...

anyways... Here is what she found...

First Name: Charles
Last Name: Passini
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Modane
Date of Arrival: Dec 03, 1900
Age at Arrival: 24y Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: La Gascogne
Port of Departure: Havre
Manifest Line Number: 0015

http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 4397050135

What makes this record interesting is that Charles (Carlo) is off to join brother Giustino..

Now there is a ships record of a Jiustiniao(?) Passini, who travels with two young sons... a little Carlo and a Adam... going on memory here... past 2:00am... 8O

So this could be... another brother... but not sure... worth checking out!!
