Translation Request of 3 Church Documents

Post by rp76226 »

I have been sent the following documents without any translations. These are two page spreads, but on each, I only need the translation of one of the records as indicated by the title before the link:

Pino death - http://postimg.org/image/uyvfeavpl/

Pino Marriage - http://postimg.org/image/6cjerczh9/

Giuseppe Puma Baptism - http://postimg.org/image/79t58r4it/

On the first one, isn't she the daughter of Angelo Munisteri Pino, not Puma?

On the marriage record, maybe it's the double surname - Munisteri Pino that is the problem. I do notice that on the right hand side by the paperclip, there is a record for an Angela Munisteri. What is that record about?

Yes, you are correct about the first one. I typed it incorrectly. She was the daughter of deceased Angelo (Munisteri Pino` is understood and not written in the record).

I have to look again at that marriage record, but I'm pretty sure there are completely different names in it.

Okay the marriage record is for Angelo Munisteri (no mention of the name Pino`). He was the son of dec Giuseppe (Munisteri) and living Dorotea Carlino. The bride was Angela (Casale??? first letter of the name is hard to decipher since it's been written over) of deceased Liborio (surname ?) and dec Giuseppa (??) Arnone.

Dated Aug 3, 1766

Thank you. Now I have to figure out how Grazia Munisteri got "Pino" added to her surname. Probably a marriage that I know nothing about.

Didn't you have trouble in the past with double surnames in this town? I've had that problem in another Sicilian town for my husband's ancestry.

Yes, Pagliarello Puma was my biggest problem. I have since been told by a person who wrote a book on Racalmuto, that Pagliarello was a nickname (little haystack) for a Puma branch and that as families became larger, different branches would be given nicknames (little "insults") to distinguish them from other branches. Another historian told me that 4 branches of the Puma family emerged in the 1500s, each with their own nickname, but i have not been able to relate them to the original Puma branch, nor find the original Puma branch.

Yes, I recall that double surname in your ancestry. At least you've managed to track down some explanations. Thanks for sharing with us.
