Need Help Deciphering Latin in Marriage Record

Post by sacesta »

This morning I found what I believe to be the marriage record of my 3rd great grandfather, Benedetto Aceste.

I could use your help deciphering a few bits of information on this record:

1. The date of marriage.

2. The phrase "natum ex ince??is parenti??" (born of unknown parents, maybe?) after Bendedetto's name.

3. Antoniam Sciorttino's parents names.

Any help you can give me is much appreciated.

Thanks so much Erudita! That word for uncertain - is that incensis?

I'm wondering now about the phrase "natum ex incertis parenti".

Does this phrase mean that Benedetto, a grown man at the time of his wedding, didn't know who his own parents were?

Or does it mean, perhaps, that no one present had knowledge of Benedetto's parents at the time the record was penned?

I'm hoping that Benedetto's parents will be written on his record of baptism.

Can someone tell me who the witnesses to this marriage may be?

"natum ex incertis parenti" means that when he was born his parents were unknown, he was a foundling.

Well, the notion that he is a foundling is the first thought to come to my head. I'm looking for other explanations. I'll be at the FHC again Wednesday morning searching microfilm for Benedetto's birth record. I don't expect to find them mentioned, but one can always hope!
