Elia? D'Elia? DiLeo?

Post by donnalynn829 »

Hi all.

I have been searching these records on FamilySearch - Italia, Cosenza, Castrovillari, Stato Civile (Tribunale), 1866-1910 - looking for information on my Italian ancestors. I've been pretty lucky, and luckier still to have the help of this forum for translations!

My family has always said that my great-grandmother's surname was D'Alia (Maria Domenica) and she was born in 1880. She was the daughter of Pasquale and Rosa Perrone, at least that's what is says on their 1899 marriage record from NY. I think the name D'Alia may be spelled incorrectly, as I have not found one reference to that spelling and I have looked at 1300 of the 1800 records in that online database. I have found lots of D'Elias, DiLeos and Elias, and one record for Pasquale Elia and Rosa Pirrone, who were married in 1879 (I think).

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-997V-H7B

Any ideas on whether or not the surname "D'Alia" is one from Canna, Cosenza, Calabria or if I should pursue the "Elia" record.

Thanks!

Great find, suanj! :-D

Donna,
The marriage you posted above for Pasquale and Rosa Pirrone identifies the same parents for Pasquale ELIA as posted in the military record by suanj :-)

It also identifies Rosa Pirrone's parents as Giovanni [Pirrone] and Lucia Sarandria.

Hi Marty.
I don't have Maria Domenica D'Elia's - now "Elia", thanks to everyone here, birth certificate. If you have any suggestions on how I might find it, I'd be grateful.

Here's the marriage certificate I referred to in the original post. Apologies fro the quality. A cousin has it and she took the picture. There's a reflection on the glass frame.

Hi,
just the index, the images are no longer available.... the website was no available for some month, and now is available but without images. You can request a copy in the Cosenza archive.
Best regards,
