Italians to Puerto Rico

Post by ms_mary58 »

Does anyone have any knowledge of where I might find information about Italians to Puerto Rico? One of my gf's brothers, Emilio Palmieri, left Alife, Itay and ultimately settled in Puerto Rico. I know that he visited the US with his family as I remember my mother telling me stories about these cousins visiting when she was a child.

Here are links to documents related to Emilio Palmieri in Ponce, P.R.
I do not know if these are for your Emilio... but thought it was worth a look.

Thank you, Tessa. I believe that this Emilio was born in Puerto Rico, and most likely is not the one that I am looking for. There is some confusion about names, as my ggm was unmarried and her children all had different last names at birth. She did recognize them all and assign them her name, Palmieri, before they left Italy, but I did locate a death record for his brother in Puerto Rico, and he used the name Cassella. One of the stories we have heard over the years was that all the children had the same father but he was married to someone else. Most of the children listed their father as Pasquale Palmieri, but, in reality, records indicate that my ggm's name was Filomena Palmieri so we do not know where that came from. Naturally, we have no was of knowing if all of her children had different fathers or if there actually was one man with the name Cassella who was their father.

I do appreciate all your effort!
