1920 census for secaucus, new jersey

Post by ally »

Hi,

Does anyone have subscription to Ancestry??? I am trying to read the street name of Peter Casterino (Caterino) wife Rose and children.

Everytime I try to enlarge to picture it is reading error message. And it was sent as error to Ancestry.

Can someone give a looksee and let me know what the street name was??

Thanks!

I'm also having problems viewing it as it won't enlarge. Let me try and go another route and see if I can get it work.

Alice & Nuccia,
I tried looking at it on HeritageQuest too - it's not much better
This looks like a 'catch-up' page for the census taker
If he moved SW to NE

Started on Louis (1st entry on page)
to Charles
to Weiglands
to Lincoln
after your entry: Washington
then Secaucus

my guess? Charles

Thanks Valerie,

I just emailed ancestry about it. Just an FYI: Their reply was:

We have received your error report. Thank you for taking the time to improve the
quality of the genealogical records found on our website.

We will review the report. If it is determined that we need to make an
adjustment to the data, we will make the change during a scheduled update for
that particular database. As we are only able to update our databases
periodically, there may be some delay before changes are included in the
database.

Sincerely,

Alice,

I couldn't do anything with firefox but I had alittle success with internet explorer, but not much! I also had trouble with imageshack so I'm afraid I'll have to wait for Maria on that one.

I assume you already have ancestry so I'll just post the direct link I got with internet. Maybe you can make something out!

Let me know if it's any better!

I can't view... I used 3 internet browsers....

But I found this info... not sure if it will help

1930 United States Federal Census

Please choose a enumeration district in Secaucus:
District 352 SECAUCUS TOWN, WARD 1 (PART), BOUNDED BY (N) CENTRAL AVE., COUNTY AVE., SECAUCUS RD.; (E) PINHORNE CREEK; (S) HACKENSACK RIVER; (W) DIVISION CREEK, 6TH.

If you can view any of these streets thru yahoo maps... it may help...

My friend may still have "MYGENEALOGY.CO M"... I will ask her for a copy...

maria

(thank you nuccia, really nice to have you as a friend!!)

Hi Everyone,

Am I mistaken or does one of the streets on the 1920 census say Washington St? Maybe a search on this street will help. I tried earlier but was distracted with some emergency work (done at home of course) and couldn't finish viewing the maps.

My subscription to www.genealogy.com has expired but I believe they offer a seven day free trail period...might be an idea Alice to try it. I'm not sure it will give you the full features but at least you can download a good genealogy program!

Hope this helps and I'll keep an out too! Hugs, Maria!!! :D :D

Don't worry Alice,

You're not alone. I had problems all day too, and yesterday. Actually, since I installed this new anti virus software to "clean" my computer, I've been having problems!

Yes the next street name is Washington, I'll try maps, seems none of my dads siblings remember living in Secaucus, NJ. Only Guttenberg, which is where they were in 1930.

Thanks you guys are the best!!

Hi Everyone,

MFJP has the right information for you for the names of the Streets. My personal opinion is that it's either Charles Avenue or County Avenue. If you look at a map it goes....

County Ave. is a main street going North and South.

Washington Ave goes East to West and ends into County Ave

Linclon Street goes East to West and ends into County Ave

Welgands Lane goes East to West and ends into County Ave

Charles Ave also goes East to West and ends into County Ave.

Louis Ave also goes East to West and ends inot County Ave.

There is a good chance that it could be Charles for Louis is the first street named on the 1920 Census then it should be Charles, then Washington.

Let me see if I can find another census for you guys.

Hi,

Yes it would more then likely be county ave. This was and is the main road out of North Bergen into Secaucus, NJ. Which now makes sense as it seems my dad remember his mom saying something about friends who lived on Washington Avenue.

And if I remember correctly my oldest aunt once said they lived on a main street, which I know wasn't in 1930 in Guttenberg, NJ.

Thank you guys, now if only I can save the census page, I will be all set.

Have a good one! :)
