Gibellina, Trapai, Sicilia

Post by jollyranch15 »

Santo Joseph Giustiniano born october 18, 1878 in Gibellina. His birth mother was Caterina Campisi, i am looking for his (Santo's birth record or baptism record. his father was a rich man and Santo's mother was said to have been a housemaid in his home. Santo died in new orleans april 16, 1961. He immigrated to USA as a young boy in 1890. I have all of his records in USA. I am searching only for records in Gibellina 1878-1890. I have been searching for this info for over 10 years. any guidance is greatly appreciated. of course his last name could be slightly misspelled so any variance.

microfilms with records for those years must be rented and used at a local family history center. If his father was unknown, his birth record should be in Part II of the 1878 records.

You might also try contacting the town directly to see if you can acquire a copy of his birth record from him. You would need a church record for the baptism but those are not microfilmed for this town. Send a self-addressed but NOT stamped envelope and photo ID. Best to write in Italian. Include your email address. Do not send money. If the town wants any fee, it will notify you.

he always said he was gibellina, but he could have been born in a nearby town and raised in gibellina. since the town colapsed in the 1968 earthquake, i doubt they would have church records, unless trapani kept a main record.

Would there be school records or newspapers from 1870's and 1880's gibellina? Where would i possibly find anything recording these times in gibellina? I am willing to read anything about this village during this time period.
thank you
