looking for family in Sicily

Post by ciacciomuschettofamily »

Hi, I am looking for relatives of Ibarta Ciaccio, she left Sicily by ship in the late 1890's. She married Luca Ciaccio in Sicily before leaving together with him. She went to Lousiana and had five or 6 kids: Antonia, Constantina or Consqueta, Frank, Rosa and 2 more. Luca may be the town my great grandfather was from and not his real name. Also, the 1920 census states Ibarta's name as Mary.

Another problem I have with finding Ibarta is she was raised in a convent in Sicily. I would like to know how to access convent records for that time

I am also looking for relatives of Antontio Muschetto and Maria Shiro, both from Sicily immigrated to Lousiana in the late 1890's. They had 5 or 6 children, I know two of the children's names: Joseph and John.

I will be in Sicily this summer and would like to meet my relatives there.

Thanks :D

Question on the MUSCHETTO family:

There is a tree posted on ancestry.com that appears to be related
- Giovanni MUSCHETTO married Maria SCHIRO
- Giovanni's son Antonio MUSCHETTO married Rose RONNO
- Antonio's son Joseph MUSCHETTO married Concetta CIACCIO

and California Death Index for a Joseph MUSCHETTO
mother's maiden name RANNO
Name: MUSCHETTO, JOSEPH
Social Security #: 571445943
Sex: MALE
Birth Date: 25 Dec 1898
Birthplace: LOUISIANA
Death Date: 5 Jun 1980
Death Place: SACRAMENTO
Mother's Maiden Name: RANNO

Can find a 1920 census for Tony MUSCHETTO w/wife Rosie immigrated in 1889. edit - census info in later post
Different family?

Hi Everyone,

This is my experiment and I need all your help. I'm attempting to link the 1920 census that Suanj posted using imageshack. I hope it works!

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1804 ... rge6zr.gif

Unfortunately, I think that it's still too far away. The original document was blurry to begin with which makes it even more difficult.

Sorry, I tried.

HI nuccia, thanks for the census, no date of immigration, but all children born in Louisiana, and Joe son already married with Mary wife... now we know more, so Luca head and Mary wife immigrated before of 1899 birthyear of Joe first child... thanks, suanj

The date of immigration for Luca and Mary Ciaccio is 1885. At the time of 1920 cencus Luca was 69 and Mary was 64, both were considered aliens as of the 1920 census. Both answered no to question able to read or write. Both state Italy for the following Place of Birth, and, Mother tongue for mother and father. I am thinking that because of the ages, :uca and Mary, may be the grandparents of Frank age 16, Concetta age 14, Rose age 13, Tony at 10, and the married couple Joe and Mary, age 21 and 19, respectively. If not, Mary would have started having children at age 40 which would have late in that era. So in that case where are the parents?

Hi, in 1920 census, Luca is head, Mary is wife, and all children are named son or daughter, so is impossible a error, and they cannot be the grandparents, because they are the parents.. in fact Joe, first son is already married, and 21 old... and Mary (Luca wife) had last son when she was of 54 old... no problem this in Italy, usual.... especially in the past time! regards, suanj

Unless I'm missing it (have been known to do that!) no information has been found that shows their original comune in Italy.

Do you know this information?

If not, suggest getting birth certificates for the children born here. I got lucky this way. Two certificates showed the town of birth for the parents. Also, Luca & Ibarta Ciaccio and Antonio & Maria Shiro death certificates may have the information.

Once you know the comune they came from, you can check for available filmed records for the comune @ www.familysearch.com.

Hope this helps. :)
