Hello, All ....
have come across an occupation name - "ramaro" - which is unfamiliar in an 1844 marriage record.
Does anyone know what this means?
Thanks and best,

Hi SynThea,
I have a bunch of them in my family. They were coppersmiths.

Thank you, Beth, for your quick response!
This is the first time I have ever heard of this occupation in connection with my family.
Guess the surprises are the best part of the research.
Sincerely grateful,

Glad to be able to help.
Out of curiosity, what part of Italy did he/she come from?

Hi, again, Beth:
Found two generations of 'ramaros' born in Fisciano about 1800 and 1823. Actually, I don't even know where Fisciano is, as these two (males) were located while tracing family lines in Serre, Salerno belonging to my paternal first cousin.
My own family interests are: Paternals: Ofena, L'Aquila, Abruzzi and Maternals: Montemiletto and Torre le Nocelle, Avellino, Campania.
What names/areas are you researching?
There is lots of great help on this forum!

Re: What is occupation 'ramaro' ?
Hi SynThea,
My grandmother's family all came from the town of Agnone in Molise, up near the border with Abruzzo.
On her father's side, the main names are Orlando, di Menna, Totaro, and Amicone. Secondary names are mainly Venditto, Maddalena, Serricchio and Marcovecchio.
On her mother's side, the main names are Gamberale, di Lollo, Antonelli, and Cerimele (my ramari). Secondary names are mainly Quaranta, Appugliese, Diana and Carosella.
I agree with you about how much help is available on this site. There are a lot of incredibly knowledgeable people here who are very generous with their time.
