I recently came across the name Pretetta in an Italian marriage record (Avellino province), but it seems to be an obscure name. Possibly I am misreading the handwriting on the document. However, it is written several times on the document and looks like Pretetta.
I did a Google search on this word, and it seems to be an Italian word, but pretty obscure. Very few hits came up on google.
Can anyone tell me what the word pretetta means in Italian? It is not in my Italian/English dictionary, and doesn't translate using online translation tools.
Also, has anyone come across a similar name in the Avellino area? Could it be spelled wrong? Pretatta, or something else?
Thanks in advance for any help on this!
Jeff

Re: Meaning of word Pretetta in Italian?
I don't have the documents posted on the web but I could email them if you wish to take a look.
The name is written on two different documents, both written two times, for the daughter Rosaria Costanza and her father Andrea.
Suanj, while Protetta is a good guess, it doesn't look like it is spelled with an "o". The person writing it makes their "o" different than "e" or "a". The "o" doesn't have a tail, but "a" and "e" do.
Let me know if you'd like to see the documents.
