I have come across a few names in my tree that all start the same way, and I was wondering if the prefixes have any meaning. One is COLA- as in Colaluca and Colamatteo, and the other is NOTA- as in Notarangelo and Notarianni. Any help would be much appreciated.
-Cola= last part of Nicola name, so Colaluca and Colamatteo in origin was Nicolaluca and Nicolamatteo, both from 2 first names of head issue, that in the middle age, when the surnames begin, they become surnames...
-Notar=notary, for the profession of head issue( as above); so Notarangelo and Notarianni, meaning Angelo notary and Giovanni(Gianni/Ianni) notary....
