Researching Licastro, Galastro

Post by Ninadmb69 »

Researcging my father's paternal side
MY GGF Giorgio Licastro married Madelena Galastro. Story goes that he died in Italy and was very old but I don't know when. She came to USA in 1921. They had children Frank, George who marrie Olga Dellomo, Sam, Rose who married Loius Siciliano, my GF Joseph who married Carmela Calfo, and then there may be a Angela whomI have found on a record but never heard of and a Anthony. One of these brothers went to Argentina, but I don't know which ones. Any info would be great.
My GF Joseph lived in Johntown Pa but went back to Brooklyn in late 1930's, early 40's died in 1941

Could this be your grandfather?

1930 United States Federal Census Recordinfo
about Joseph Licastro
Name: Joseph Licastro
Age: 35
Estimated birth year: abt 1895
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to head-of-house: Head
Spouse's Name: Camilla Licastro
Race: White
Home in 1930: Johnstown, Cambria, Pennsylvania

I'll link if you like. I noticed you had another post under Calfo. Its easier to just stick with one post so that we don't duplicate info.

Also, what records do you already have? Again, we don't want to duplicate info.

This is the info I have on the Licastro name.

Guisseppi Licastro came over according to 1930 census in 1921, he was a merchant marine for Italy, and he supposedly jumped ship!
B 1895 d 23 Dec 1941. He and my gm Carmella calfo had an arranged marriage in approx. 1924, I think they married in Indiana Co. PA, but I am not sure b/c it seems as though his family had already settled in Johnstown, they are not far from one another. I don't know why how or why his siblings ended up in Brooklyn except that supposedly two of his brothers got run out of town, might have something to do with a crime, if you catch my drift. LOL
His mother was Madelena Galastro and she was married to Giorgio Licastro in Italy, they are from the town of Pizzo, but I have no records on her except her manifest and 1930's census, have nothing on Giorgio, no birthdays for any of them.
I do know for sure that Guisseppi had siblings Rosa, married to Louis Siciliano, Frank, George married to Olga Dellomo and Sam, but I am not sure if Sam is boy or girl, I think boy. I never heard of angela of filipo until I found that philly record, I also have in my old notes that there might have been a Antonio. I know one of the brothers, but not Frank or George went to Argentina.

You can wirte the comune for his birthact. Here is the inormation.

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Pizzo
89812 PIZZO (VV)
ITALY

or

The LDS Church (Mormans) have filmed the civil records (vital records) for the town of Pizzo for the years 1823 thru 1910.

Here is a link to the available films.

Link to locate your nearest LDS-Family History Center

And a link to a guide for ordering the above films provided by our member, Trish, a professional genealogist.
