Information about London please

Post by Emmy »

Hi everyone,
When my grandfather came to London about 1883/1885 his address was 32 Mill Lane, my grandfather's brother lived there too. I have found an old map of London and have found Mill Lane which is near London Bridge. On a death certificate for one of his children my grandfather's brother has the address as 32 Lamberts Buildings, what I am trying to find out is if Lamberts Buildings was in Mill Lane (odd the number being the same and on a later certificate his address was 32 Mill Lane again) The maps I have found dont give enough detail.
Appreciate any help

Hi nonna Joyce
Many thanks for answering the other post too Maria has just come up with a ships manifest that looks GOOD. Just could be that they went back to Italy when my grandfather came to Scotland. Right now I feel just so excited, if this is them then something tells me I'll find a link to Micheangelo there too. I should really be away tidying up because daughter, husband and children will be here from France next weekend. Need to get rid of all my rubbish and ironing   Wished the inside of the house was as tidy as the garden's going to be. I've managed to get next door neighbours son-in-law to come and cut the hedges, trees etc its making a big difference. When did you say your daughter was moving? Will she be nearer or further away?
Give them my love
God Bless

No Joyce I don't live in London I live in Liverpool you know where the Beatles hailed from and that song by one of the Osman's 'long haired lover from Liverpool' I think that is what it was called a little before my time you see. Most importantly home of Everton football Club, one must always prioritise.
But still I might be able to help Emmy, I'll get on to it soon as I'm able. :D :D

:D :D
Hey Joyce,
No problem over the location, its just that I have less access to London archives than I do to Liverpool region archives because my job is regionally specialised but for what Emmy needs to find out, if I can't get direct access when i'm back in work then I'll contact my London equivalent to find out. Only problem is that for most of this week I've got community outreach work, which means I'm away from the office alot in fact to day I've been doing just that displaying modern maps against historic maps digitally, via a laptop to an overhead projector, which normaly works really well but the damn laptop kept crashing. Stress levels are now through the roof. I think a glass of wine on the patio is called for.

Regards Mark :D :D

Hi Nonna Joyce
I'll enjoy that lemonade
Could do with it right now, its just 9am and it very hot already, afraid I'm not really a sun worshipper like the sunshine but with a lovely breeze to go with it. Could this maybe be because the bikini doesnt fit any more?
Tell you son-in-law I wish him well and I'll say a prayer for him and the family.
Hope all the family is doing fine.
Love xx
God Bless

Hi Emmy,

I like sunshine & warm weather even if I can't wear a bikini anymore!.....Too many years living through cold winters....just leave out the humidity, my hair frizzies!

I'll pass on for your message to s-i-l & daughter & thank you. They're doing great......move went pretty smoothly & they're getting settled in with help from his parents. A bunch of people @ the apts. came & helped unload their moving van, two cars & a truck....thank God for kind hearted people!

Hope all is well with you & your family.

XOXO

Hi Emmy,
You may find this site useful - it gives a link for viewing the University Of Liecester's files on street Directories.

I always knew these as Kelly's Directory's and they were very useful. I'm trying to track down a particular address too. But not in London - that's why I have this link.

My father's family were Londoners and came from just across the river in Wandsworth, S. London.

Hope this may be of some use.
