The First Federal Census was taken in 1790, since then there have been enumerations every ten years (although 1890 was almost completely destroyed, here is a fascinating article on what happened). Currently everything up to 1930 is available online with Ancestry.com and perhaps some other genealogy websites. Some free online records can also be found here. and here.

As an additional note New York took its own State census for the following years:

1825
1835
1845
1855
1865
1875
1892
1905
1915
1925

Hope that helps!

Yes there are records for those years.

Have you checked out other sites to read up on whats available out there? I think I learned the most by not only posting on this board but by taking the info provided and researching it persoanlly. Some good sites that you should look into are..

www.ancestry.com

www.stevemorse.org

www.ellisisland.org

www.paginebianche.it

http://genealogy.about.com/library/auth ... shop4a.htm

http://www.comunesofitaly.org/Links/Handwriting.htm

http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... /index.asp

http://www.familysearch.org/

and of course...good old google!

And many more.

Its great to get help but satisfying to be able to look up info own your own without having to wait for answers. Hope you spend some time looking through these links and that you will bookmark them. I think you'll be surprised.

Also, ancestry offers a free 14 day trial if you would like to have a look through the site yourself and I believe you can get a free genealogy program out of it. Worth looking into it. Some good books available through your library as well. Let us know how you make out once you've spent some time looking through them.

Hope this helps some of your questions..past, present and future! :D

I have been researching my family since 1998 back then they did not have that much online. I have done all my own research by going to the mormon library and regular library, also I hired a researcher form abruzzo2000 who got all my great and great great birth and baptismal certificates. I just need some help with the manifest. for my grandfather and great grandfather. I have written Italy got all of my death certificates did the social security. But your site has helped me because sometimes you need an extra eye to catch things There no harm in asking for help.

DebraRose,

No, there isn't any harm in asking for help..in fact thats what we're here for. You never said what research you had already done (unless I missed it) and I thought the sites may have been helpful for you.

Since there is so much online now have you looked through ancestry? The census records go back as far as 1810 (although I'm not sure how complete it is).

The 1910 census has just been completely indexed so theres alot out there. I found though that in 1910 the majority of names have been spelled incorrectly and sometimes its better to look through it personally becasue you may see something which only you are familiar with.

I'll give you an example..

I was looking for the 1910 census for my greatgranfather..Giovanni Polito and greatgrandmother Vincenza ....this is how it was indexed..

1910 United States Federal Census Record
about John Paleto
Name: John Paleto
[Giovanni (John) Polito]
Age in 1910: 30
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1880
BirthPlace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouses's Name: Denice
Home in 1910: Precinct 14, Las Animas, Colorado
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Gender: Male
Year of Immigration: 1905
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members:
Name Age
John Paleto 30
Denice Paleto 25
Peter McArlto 38
Palt Gabeal 40

Denice should be Vincenza, Peter McArtlo should be Peter Naccarato and I have no clue who the last person should be...

I hope this helps a bit with what I was trying to do..

Thank you so much for all the information you have given me. I like to ask you a question. If my grandparents were married in 1907 in New Rochelle New York would they be on the 1910 census? Could I obtain that census from ancestry.com I have their marriage certificate thats the date. I have one more questions My Mom says that my grandmother met my grandfather and my great grandmother boarding house. in or around 1900-1907 would he Nicola Antonacci be listed on the census for my gg grandmother house. (Battista Pippo or DiPippo) I really thank you, no one in my family is into the family tree, except one second cousin. So you have really helped alot. thanks again Debbie

Oh DebraRose,

I'm sorry but I'm sooo confused! Been trying to go back and forth between posts trying to figure out whose who...

Did Nicola marry Pippio or Giovanni or was Giovani Nocolas son?

Can you please help us help you by recapping all the info and connections to each other which will save us from having to all do it individually so we can connect them. This will also help us find you info..

Was your grandfathers family living in a house owned by your grandmothers family or were they living in the same house together...grandfathers family as boarders?

If you have a geneaolgy program it will help print all the info out to us fo you won't have to do it manually. Also, please include which documents you already have and which ones you still need..

Thanks...will wait for your info..
