Ports of Entry

Post by Gram »

If an immigrant was traveling from Southern Italy to Buffalo, New York in the period 1903-1905 and did not come through port of New York, what alternate ports can I check?

Boston and if he came in between 1902-1920 you go to the Mormon church family history library and rent the passenger entry microfilm. Peter

Thanks Peter....I'm going to try NARA form 81 one more time using Boston as an entry. If that doesn't work I'll try the Family History Library.

He could have come in thru Halifax Canada and took a train to Buffalo too but if you know the name of the ship and possibly the year that could help too. Peter

If I don't find him entering at Boston I will also try Halifax, Canada. The year would be 1903, 1904 or maybe 1905. I have no idea of the ship name. Thanks again, Peter.

If he came in that way he would have had to enter Canada first and crossed over land into the USA. Did he ever become a naturalized US citizen? Peter

He was naturalized in 1940. I have filed a request with INS, the FOIA form 884. I've been told it takes six months or longer for a reply.
Will those forms list all entries into the US or just the most recent?
Thanks..Claudia
