Surname "Viavattine" in Sicily

Post by MViavattine »

Hello! I'm new to this forum today and I'm researching my husband's family from Sicily; possibly of Palermo or Valguanara. Joseph Viavattine and Josephine (LaQuadra) Viavattine had 6 boys and 1 girl. Phillip Viavattine (born 1886), my husband's great grandfather, came to the USA along with his brother Anthony Viavattine. I am trying to find out information about his other siblings. It was said that 3 brothers - Sam, John, and Frank Viavattine went to South America (don't have a specific place), and a sister Carmella Viavattine, stayed in Italy. Angello was killed in service in Italy. I am trying to locate information about the brothers in South America or the sister in Italy. Can anyone help me?

Thanks, Maria!

Hi MViavattine,

I see that the website for Caltanisessetta (provided by Maria) has an email address for the city hall. You can request Philip's (Filippo) birth act & immigration information on his siblings via email....should be in Italian....see link below.

To trace the family, the LDS Church (Mormans) has filmed censuses, church records, & civil records (birth, marriage, death acts) for the town of Caltanisessetta.

Here is a link to census films (covers 1584-1815).

Link to the civil films (1820-1910)

You can order/rent these films from your local LDS-Family History Center. Depending on your location they cost $5.50/$5.75 per month & can be renewed.

These are some databases for arrival to South America. They are free sites, but the 1st one you do have to register.

Good luck in your research & keep us posted on your progress.

Hey Nonna J,

Am going to try A and relink the images for you but frankly its been a long time. All the programs I've tried to access have been giving me trouble and then for the second time this week I crashed my computer.

Just got it up and running since 11:30 this morning so you can bet I'm not in the best of moods right now.

Hope this helps
