Immigration of Cicalas from Sciacca

Post by aabruno »

Experts:
I am looking for the immigration of my great grandparents from Sciacca to Norristown, PA. Census records indicate that they came to the US in 1896. I can't find them in the Ellis Island. Can someone help me check with Ellsis Island or check in other immigration records.

Their names are:
Accursio Cicala - born in Sciacca 1855 (would be 41 in 1896)
Filippa Saladino - wife, born in Sciacca 1862 (would be 34 in 1896)
Vincenza Cicala - daughter born in Sciacca 1893 (would be around 3 yrs old)

Thanks,
Anthony

Hi vj... :P

Had some help...

I used www.castlegarden.org which gave me the correct name transcriptions along with the name of the ship... sometimes it's best to do a quick search here.. and then use Steve Morse's site...

Oddly enough, there was another Filippa Saladino who arrived in 1896...

aabruno only asked about young Vincenza... I hope the other siblings on the manifest are icing on the cake...

Thanks Valarie... :P

Maria:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!! I have played around with many variants of Cicala: Cicalo, Cicalla, Chicala, Cicale, etc,etc... never though about changing the first letter.... EXCELLENT!!

Yes, I knew about the other children.

Not sure about Onofrio Saladino. Where do you see him?

The only sibling to Filippa Saladino I have is Maria Saladino born in 1867. They are children of Sebastiano Saladino and Caterina Catanzaro. Sebastiano's father is Luciano Saladino.

Again, thanks!

Anthony
Onofrio was on the very next page along with others from Sciacca.

I've linked the manifest below... but pages for these manifests are out of link.... hope you can view it...

First Name: Onofrio (b1840+-)
Last Name: Saladino
Ethnicity: Italia, Sciacca
Last Place of Residence:
Date of Arrival: Dec 21, 1895
Age at Arrival: 55 Gender: M Marital Status:
Ship of Travel: Patria
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0060

Link to Onofrio Saladino's manifest

NO CLUE as to who he is... doesn't say much on this manifest... but sometimes the group he travels with can lead to some clues....

0042. Bono, Accursia F 1 Italia, Sciacca
056. Man Drocchio, Giuseppe M 49 Italia, Sciacca
0057. Taorinina, Antonio M 25 Italia, Sciacca

I'll check on Onofrio in the microfilm I already have for Sciacca. He must be related since he is also going to Norristown, PA.

Thanks!

Do you or someone have access to the 1900 census on Ancestry?

I need the image if the 1900 census for the Cicala family in Norristown, PA. I did a search and they show up as Cicallo (not Cicala) in the Ancestry index. They show up as:
Crees (Accursio)
Fritz (Filippa- wife)
Bennet (Bennedetto - 1884)
Joanna (Giovanna - 1887)
Mary (1891)
Vicent (Vincenza 1897)
Allusa (Accursia- 1897)
Joseph (Giuseppe - 1900)
I would appreciate if someone can get send me the .jpg
Thanks,
Anthony

Yes I do. She is the daughter of Sebastiano Saladino (1829) and Caterina Catanzaro (1839). Sebastiano is the son of Luciano Saladino (~1789). All from Sciacca.
