Do you know any of his childrens names? How about any siblings? They were originally from S. Stefano Reggio Calabria..a name I recognize. Could they have shortened the last name to Scarfo by any chance? There are a lot of Scarfo's which is another common name in Reggio so they may have changed it once they got here?

the correct Vincenza's surname seems ZimbAlardi... but in Santo Stefano di Aspromonte exist, CURRENTLY, only ZIMBALATTI...
Rocco and Vincenza both from Santo Stefano in Aspromonte( Reggio Calabria province); in the first travel Rocco was in travel with Antonino AGOSTINO (coming from Podargoni is hamleth of Reggio Calabria town) and both joining at Stefano COPPOLA cousin... so both they had the same cousin!

however the Scarfone and Zimbalardi family was connected also by other people, as Maria Scarfone (father: Rocco Scarfone in Santo Stefano) and joining at Stefano Zimbalardi/Zimbalatti in Ontario
for your ancestor's civil records you can write in Santo Stefano in Aspromonte info @ sstefanoaspromonte.it (NO SPACES) and/or to see the morman's microfilms

Since you didn't give a year of birth and you stated Rocco came to the USa first. Here are two Rocco's coming into the USA in 1905 through Ellis Island.

Scarfone,Rocco Reggio, 1905 32 1873 (*note: he's married)
Scarfone,Rocco S. Stefano 1905 21 1884 (*note: he's single)

Hi Trish, Rocco Scarfone from Santo Stefano di Aspromonte is the right, and it was single, yes.. but in 1910 back in Italy, married at vincenza and both emigrated as wrote on the ship's manifest ( Rocco already in USA from 1906/10 and Vincenza never) and in this 1910's ship manifest http://ellisisland.org/search/shipmanif ... 1414060062
the birthplace is Santo Stefano di Aspromonte right, as also the age... the first destination was NY and we don't know when they emigrated in Canada..(Ontario)... what is also interesting that in the 1910 ship's manifest Rocco mentioned Santo Scarfone brother in Italy.. and it is strange that a Santo Scarfone from Santo Stefano di Aspromonte, Reggio Calabria already in USA from 1907/1910, came again in NY in the 1911; wife Francesca LUCIANO in Santo Stefano... perhaps is the brother of Rocco or no, but it will be pleasant to know your suggestions, kisses, suanj

If we recap from all the posts, then we know that that Rocco came to the USA in 1905.

First Name: Rocco

Then per the 1910 manifest that Suanj found for Rocco and Vincenza, this states Rocco was born about 1884. Vincenza was born about 1889. They were married between 1905-1910 for Rocco is single in 1905 and married by 1910.

Per the information above, in 1913 manifest for the Maria Scarfone, her birth year to 1894. She could be a cousin or a sister to Rocco Scafone.

Now about Santo Scarfone,

This Santo Scarfone coming in 1904 was ging ot West Virginia to see his cousin- Stefano Zimbalatti.
