Bruno-Ciancuilli

Post by bousejg »

Hi everyone, I just found this great site! I recently joined a Geneology group and have done some researching for my ancestors. Does anyone have any information on the following names:
Francisco Bruno born 2-26-1880 in Celenza Valfortore Provincia Di Foggia
Died Sept 18 1943 in Waterbury Ct.

Accoring to records he came to the USA in 1908 and might have settled in Harrisburg PA.

He was married to Mariannina Ciancuilli Feb 12 (unknown year)
He was a master shoemaker in Italy

Mariannini Ciancuilli was born July 26 1883 in the same town. Her parents where Michael Cianiulli and Louise Ciancuilli

I plan on going to Italy in 2008 and would like to see if any relatives are still living there.

Thanks for any help

You can always use the Italian Phone listings to view those with your surname still living in Italy..

Hope this helps.

Could this be Marianna's Ship Manifest?

First Name: Marianna
Last Name: Cianciulli
Ethnicity: Italy, Italian South
Last Place of Residence: Celensa, Italy
Date of Arrival: Nov 17, 1911
Age at Arrival: 28y Gender: F Marital Status: M
Ship of Travel: Moltke
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0003

Traveling with son Pasquale to meet her husband Francesco Bruno in Connecticut at 86 Portier, Waterbury. So most probably she was already married prior to 1908 since Pasquale is 3 years old. Shes leaving her father Michele behind.

RE: Bruno/Ciancialli
Thanks JCSM..all the names match but never heard of Bruns. Was that a misspelling on the Census? That 1930 census would be the age the family was at that time, right? Do I now have to look for the name of Bruns? The New Haven thing threw me off, but now I remember that's the County so all that makes sense but not the spelling of Bruns.

RE: Nuccia... that sounds like my grandma's sister cause her husbands name was Pasquale. But her name I thought was Zelena or something like that.

How do you guys find all this stuff so fast???? This is quite new to me so it will take some time to digest all this info but I'm sure having fun doing it.

Thanks again and hope to find more info.

Gloria, I thought you said that Marianna Cianciulli was Francesco's wife? :? If you click on the links you can see that this Pasquale is Mariana's son and his last name is Bruno...he's going to see his father Francesco. It was common for women to travel using their maiden names so unless I missed something I think it really is your grandmother. Your grandmothers sister..could she have been Maddelena?

As for finding info..it just requires knowing which site to go to and time. Many of us have subscriptions to sites such as www.ancestry.com (paid for site but you can view immigration records for free until Nov 30).

Another great site is www.stevemorse.org which is free upon registration. You can look for all kinds of ship manifests as well as other records by using the various forms and search engines.

Please, keep us posted...I'm curious about Mariana now. :D

Hi bousejg,

The 1930 census was just transcribed incorrectly.....last name is BRUNO. It's very common to find misspellings on census record.....re: the 1920 census, found by vj

Here is the link to the 1930

Vj,

Thanks for linking the manifest. :D

How do I reply to a certain person, like Nucci? I asked my Mom about the name Madelena and she said it was her mother's sister. We called her Zilena so it came as a surprise to find her real name.

Any idea how to go about searching Italy for more information before they came over to Ellis Island?
