No US Immigration Records- so trying Italia Emigration route
Hi everyone!
I have a great grandfather named (in America) Simeon Petticore. He declares his "immigration" to the US as 1888 in our 1910 US Census. His daughter Bridgette Petticore, followed her father several years later in 1892. They are both from Alessandria del Carretto, Italy.
Simeon (or Simon) married first, Rose Mont in Italy and had two children Anthony (born 16 May 1876); and Bridgette (born 29 Sep 1878). Rose must have passed away in Italy, and Simone remarried a woman by the name of Camilla Aduse. They had one additional child in Italy before emigrating to the US. This additional child was Frank Petticore, born 22 Feb 1886 -- also in Alessandria del Carretto, Italy. A final son, James Petticore ( 20 Aug 1894) was born after the family settled in the Sedro Woolley, Skagit County of Washington State in the Pacific Northwest US.
Since I can't seem to find them coming into the US - can anyone there in Italy help me find them leaving (emigrating) ?
Appreciate any help. Sincerely, Donna

How did you research all the birthdates and the names of the Petticores?
Were they from actual American documents??

Re: No US Immigration Records- so trying Italia Emigration r
Took a look at this last night, found many manifest that "could be", but with the exception of one, none were going to Washington.
James the son has a manifest, but there was little to be had in way of info that you don't already know.
James was born in Washington in 1894.......do you know if the family lived elsewhere prior to his birth??

Re: No US Immigration Records- so trying Italia Emigration r
Info on James WW1 draft registration indicates he is supporting his father:
World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
about James Petticore
Name: James Petticore
City: Not Stated
County: Skagit
State: Washington
Birthplace: Washington
Birth Date: 20 Aug 1894
Roll: 1992014
The manifest for James must be his return from the war.....
it further states he is natural born.......so his mother would have to come into the states prior to his birth, the 1910 census also states Simon was widowed.......

Here is a link to the 1900 census, listed under Petticord, James is 5 years of age, father is widowed......
http://img464.imageshack.us/img464/7865/simonwg3.jpg
so that narrows down the time frame for a manifest to be found....
also, there is microfilm available for the town of interest:

I would think the correct spelling of the surname is ADUCCI, see the following site:

Re: No US Immigration Records- so trying Italia Emigration r
I am going through the leads you have provided, and very much appreciate your help. Is it possible to find online the community Church records or cemetery records? Do you think I can find the marriage of Mr. Petticora (Pettacora?) to Rose Mont and her death record through the local church or parish records? How do I find out how many churches were active in that town in 1870's - since that seems to be the first child born (Bridgette). So far, none of the Petticore/Pettacora ship manifests have a man old enough to be Simoen. I will also go to the Chicago area to see what I can find here - if that is where the bulk of immigrations for this surname headed.
Re: No US Immigration Records- so trying Italia Emigration r
There are no searchable databases online in Italy comparable to what we have here in the US. There have been some transcribed records put online, but these are few and far between.
The best way to proceed is by gathering all US documents first, then using the microfilm....once you have exhausted those resources, you can send for records to the town of origin, as well as the local parish.
Based on James date of birth, and the 1900 census, Camilla has passed away between 1894 and 1900......I would send for a death record to Washington, this may reveal further clues.

Perfect. I found the reference to the microfilm and am ordering that now. I haven't found Camila's death record yet - but I will follow that also.
You have been tremendous here with me. Thank you very much. - Donna

Re: No US Immigration Records- so trying Italia Emigration r
Happy to help out.......there is still much research to be done, will take a look at further records later.
Would be interesting to know the exact name of Petticore......I have looked thru some databases, nothing definite yet.
Lots of great researchers here, anything you need, just ask.....
and Welcome to ItalianGenealogy!!

Re: No US Immigration Records- so trying Italia Emigration r
I have tracked the family thru the 1900, 1910, and 1920 census in Washington.
With the exception of Anthony in the 1910 census, they are all present and accounted for.
All three boys registered for the draft and listed their wives as next of kin,
with the exception of James, who is not married at that time.
Bridget is married by 1900 to a Joseph Dibay and variations of that surname.
Washington State Birth Index 1900-1919
Name: George Dibay
Birth Date: 1907
Location: Skagit
Sex: Male
Race: White
Father's name: Joseph Dibay
Mother's name: Briget Petticore
Now here is where it gets interesting, Anthony had the following child with his wife, as well as one other child:
Washington State Birth Index 1900-1919
Name: Paul Nellis Petticore
Birth Date: 3 Jul 1917
Location: Skagit
Sex: Male
Race: White
Father's name: Anthony Petticore
Mother's name: Mame L Davis
But here are the children in the 1920 census in a childrens home in ILLINOIS.........
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/2329 ... oredz5.jpg
So there is some connection to Illinois......quite the puzzle!!!
