Di Santo family

Post by Cassandra1 »

I am looking for anyone who has any information on the Di Santo family from Belvedere Marittimo in Cosenza.

My great-great-grandmother was Eleonora Di Santo. She came to America around 1908. She had children, Daniele, Ciriaco, Gaetano, Rosina (my great-grandmother), Julia and others I don't know. She was married more than once. She had a sister named Maria but I know nothing about her.

Thank you for any information.

Oh! Thank you! The only thing I have is the Ellis Island records. And bits of information from my great-grandmother who had a horrible memory.

I am looking for anything. Records, anyone who may know anything, family members, etc. Thank you.

She settled in Des Moines, Iowa. On the Ellis Island record she states that she will be taking a job as a housekeeper and staying with her sister Maria. But I've looked everywhere and I can't find anything else about her or anyone else in my family. I don't know if her first husband stayed in Italy or came back. I believe her last husband's last name was Orlando, but I don't know how many times she was married, if it was twice or 3 times. Another of her husbands was a Marturello/Martorello I think.

The manifest above states her husband as Francesco Martarello in New York. Her sister is Maria in Cosenza.

I don't understand. She wasn't going to her sister, her sister was in Cosenza? I may have read it wrong. What is the detained aliens list? Thank you so much for your help!

The manifest is two pages long. I'll link it for you and we can go over it. On page 1, lines 24, 25, 26, 27, it staes their names ages and where they are from. It also states who the nearest living relative is that they left behind (her sister Maria).

On the second page it asks who paid for her trip, where she was going and to see who. It also states her place of birth. She states shes going to see her husband Francesco Mantorella in New York.

She was detained for some reason..maybe she had to wait for her husband to pick her up, or maybe her papers weren't in order...I haven't looked at the manifest to really tell.

Will try and link the images in a minute...imageshack is slow tonight.
