Giamo UPDATE

Post by pacjr »

Ok, it helps when BF spells the surname correctly. Its actually spelled GIAIMO. Mary's name is actually STELLA and her husbands name shows on their 1930 census as CARMELO GIAMO. Oops! The family is from Toledo Ohio. Carmelo is from Italy originally and Stella is born in Ohio but her parents are from Poland. This has been verified.

I am still looking for date of death on Carmelo and immigration. It states on census he came here in 1909. I haven't checked with Ellis Island on through Ancestry as of yet.

The children of Carmelo and Stella are:
Anthony 16 born 1914
Samuel 13 1917
Rosa 11 1919 (this is the Rose I was looking for)
Frances 9 1921
Carmella 7 1923
Andrew 5 1925
Anette 4yr 6mo. 1925/26
Nancy 2yr 2mo 1928

All children were born in Ohio and lived on Cutter St in Toledo Ohio.

Carmelo Giaimo and Stella (maiden name unknown right now) were married in 1913
Carmelo was a cook in a hotel. I also found his WWI draft card.

Anyway, thanks for the help on this and I'm really sorry about the wild goose chase. I really thought we had the right people.

Thanks again, Sue

Thank you Suanj, this manifest I had not yet come across til now. I did open it and it has on it that Carmelo lived with his father in Italy(if I am reading it correctly). Can you tell me what it says his father's name is? I cannot make out the writing.

Thanks again so much.

Hi Sue,

If this is a repeat, sorry...I didn't check your other posts.

The LDS Church (Mormons) have the orginal birth, marriage & death acts for the town of Sinagra on films for the years of 1820 through 1910.

Available films (civil records):

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... ato+civile++

These can be obtained through your local LDS-Family History Center.

To locate your nearest center:

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

A guide to obtainng these films:

http://italiangenealogy.tardio.com/Foru ... =2581.html

To help translate the records, the Family History Center have an Italian-English genealogical word list for a small fee & many centers have an Italian-English dictionary available. Check with yours.

Hope this helps.
