Hi. I know this is a very old thread, but I recently found it. The OP is my mother and the information presented here is very useful. Giovanni Battaglia is my great grandfather and arrived in the U.S. in 1911. My grandfather was born in 1924 and my mother in 1944. As a descendant, I am wondering if it would be possible for me to apply for Italian citizenship and if so, what records would I need? I have read the requirements, but am confused. Do I need to determine if Giovanni was naturalized as a US citizen before or after my grandfather was born (1924) or does it not matter? Also, since my mother (maternal) is the connection to Italy for me, does that rule it out for me if she never pursued Italian citizenship? She is still alive, but with dementia
