jcsm has also given you some great advice. At some point you will need to verify all the "possible" relatives. This is a sure way of doing it! I recently realized the importance of having documents...very important in any research. Thanks Nonna.. :D

Oh..and thanks for the other info...will keep you posted on my findings. Will be contacting you for a few other things.[/quote]

I know that there is family still in Contursi. Is there any service that will translate a personal letter for me? Or is there a way of checking if there are email addresses for them? The two names I know are Antonio and Mario Briscione. I believe they both still reside in Contursi.

Thanks for all the great information I have received so far. :)

I could't understand why I couldn't find Josephine's manifest at the Ellis Island web site, but now I know that she arrived in Boston. Are there any other ports of entry that I can research?

Here are some sites that may help:

http://www.anzwers.org/free/italiangen/ ... #relatives

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/search/ ... talian.ASP

and a site to locate the address:

http://www.paginebianche.it/index.html

cognome=surname
dove=town
cerca=search

hope this is helpful.

Thank you so much. Those web sites are unbelievable. I never would have found them on my own. Are they listed on your web links? If not they should be.

I found out that the Briscione name is rare in Italy also. Anyone have any idea of its origin or meaning?

I have been searching the Ellis Island records and found a few possibilites.
There are 2 Gabriele Brisciones (father and son) of Union Hill NY. Can anyone help with census info?
Also there is a Giusippa Brusciome? who entered in 1894, but when I try to get the ship's record, it shows up as a blank.
help :?

Thanks. Contursi is the name of the town. I am trying to figure out if Giuseppa is actually a Briscione. Rosa is probably the sister of my grandfather, Angelo. This Giuseppa might be a sibling.

This is very interesting because it is the oldest record i have seen so far. Please do send me the link. Names are probably Vespucci and Romeo or Amedeo. Why can't I find any record of children of Gabriel or Vespucci?
Thank you so much for the help

Angelo emigrated in 1910 at the age of 30. Vespucci must be a cousin because the timeline doesn't seem right for a brother. I need to find out if
Gabriel was from Contursi. It seems like Gabriele went back and forth a lot. Perhps he was the first to come to the states.
