Wrong town...

Post by Gina501 »

Hi everyone. I need some hints on what to do now. I have documents on my great-great grandmother, Maria Luigia Del Principe including her death record that lists her parents names (my great-great-great grandparents, Raffael Del Principe and Anna Libori). I was very excited to find those names, as I was now able to write to her town and request her birth act. All of her documents say she is from Pescasseroli, L'Aquila, Abruzzo, born between 1838 and 1842. Well the town of Pescasseroli has checked 1837 to 1847 and cannot find her birth act. Even though everything points to Pescasseroli, I must now assume she was born somewhere else I guess. What do I do now? How can I proceed with finding her? I really need some good advise. This was my best lead and I'm a little depressed now.

Hi Gina,

You may want to consider recontacting the town & requesting a search for her birth record prior to 1837 or try contacting the province archive with the information you have.

Hope this helps.

Hi Joyce. Thanks for responding so quickly. So, are you saying that instead of being specific with Pescasseroli, I should write to L'Aquila? Would they have the records for everything in that province?

Hello Gina,
Archivio di Stato di L'Aquila has the civil records of 108 municipalities of province of L'Aquila, from 1809 to 1865
I hope it helps, bye Riccardo

Thanks Riccardo. I had someone who speaks Italian check Pescasseroli and they said the people in Pescasseroli checked 1837 to 1847 and didn't find her. Should I believe or not? Should I try myself?

Hi Gina,

I have a better plan for you!.........

The LDS Church (Mormons) have filmed the civil records for the town of Pescasseroli for the years of 1809-1865.

Here is the link to the available films.>

If you need more information on these films & how & where to obtain them, please let me know.

Gina
I want to tell you a story,
I had a date of death of my great-grandmother, from her graveside in Trapani, when I requested his death certificate via post mail, they answered to me that she didn't die there!!
So, I thought that something was wrong. When I had the chance to go to Trapani vital record office in person I told them my situation, and they look for her death record and found it.
The person in charge said that maybe they didn't look for it in the right way.
I think you don't waste your time since you have the records stating Pescasseroli as a birth place.
Just try again
I hope it helps,
bye Riccardo

I will trust what you say Joyce. I would write to L'Aquila as Riccardo suggested too, but I do not speak, read or write Italian. I have already had two documents translated for me in this forum and don't want to ask for another and seem like a pest. So if there is someway I could do it myself I will.
