Great-grandparents

Post by palex »

Hi everyone,
I am attempting to obtain birth and marriage certificates for my great-grandparents, both of whom were born and married in Italy. The issue is that I have very little information on them, so I'm trying to figure out where geographically I could attempt to send a request to a commune. Here is all the info I have:

Great-grandfather - Felice Brogna, DOB - Dec. 11, 1878
Great-grandmother - Raffaela Defronzo, DOB - unknown

Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much
:)

Riccardo,
Many thanks. That is certainly him. I was wondering where "Mintiletto" is. You mentioned that it is in the province of Avellino, which sounds correct, but I was unable to find it on a map or in any search engine.

Also, is it possible to download the ship manifest? It seems as if the document was protected.

To request his birth/marriage certificate, I'm guessing it would be a good bet to send a request to the Commune of Avellino?... or do I need to go even more local (Mintiletto ??)?

Again,
Thanks so much.

If you look at the two manifests pointed out by Riccardo, you will notice that Felice Brogna arrived in USA a first time on May 5 1898, when he was 19 and he was single. The second time that he arrived, on May 29 1901, he was married!

Livio,
Thanks... I just noticed that myself. I actually had to register at the Ellis Island site to view the 1898 manifest for some reason. That definitely helps to determine an approximate date of marriage... and I think it's safe to assume that the town of "Mintiletto" should in fact be "Montemiletto".

I will send a request to the Commune of Montemiletto. Thanks again for everyone's assistance... very much appreciated.

Anyone know if those manifests can be downloaded?

:)

Hi Again,

About the town of Montemiletto, it is in the Province of Avellino.

Now the Family History Center does have microfilm for the town of Montemiletto. The films cost $5.75 a roll. On the films you can find copies of the birth, marriage, and death records of your ancestors.

Here is the link for the film numbers.

Here is the link to find the nearest Family History Center.

Just in case you do not want to use the microfilm, you can always write to the town directly for records. Here is the address.

Ufficio Stato Civile
Comune di Montemiletto l
Via Roma, 2
83038 Montemiletto AV
ITALY

Here is a link that you can use that will help you translate you request into Italian.

Here is the main web site for the town.

I hope this helps some,
Trish

Trish,
Thank you so much for doing all of that... it was truly an enormous help. I will most definitely pay a visit to a Family History Center.

Eternal thanks.
