Alberto Faranda

Post by kecurroj »

I'm doing some research for my wife's side of the family. Her grandfather was Alberto Faranda who immigrated to the Cleveland, Ohio area in the early 1920s. He was born in Sicily in either 1897-98 and died in 1968 in Ohio. He did have a brother, Carmello, that immigrated to Ohio also. I checked the Ellis Island logs for the years surrounding, but had no luck. Did Sicilian immigrants come into other ports besides New York? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Biff,
You are the best! The Raymond listed on the 1930 census is my father-in-law. I have given him the link to this thread, so he'll be able to read this himself.

Thank you!

Thus far, I have not been able to locate a 1920 census record for Alberto nor a WWII Draft Registration card. I found a 1930 census on a Carmelo Faranda in Cleveland. Was his wife's name Barbara and his children Salvatore, Carmelo, and Marie?

If you know Alberto's wife Rose's maiden name, post it and I will check to see if I can find any census records for her and her family.

I believe Carmelo is related, but Raymond would have to tell you just how. As for Rose, they were married in the U.S., but I'm sure Ray could give me that information. I'll see if he'll register, that way you can communicate directly with him.

Thank you!

Per the Cleveland Obituary above on Albert Faranda, his wife was Rose Guerra.

Possible 1920 Census for Rose Guerra, daughter of Frank and Lena
Cleveland, OH 638 East 105th St
Rose's age at 16 is in the ballpark since her age on 1930 census is 27
1920 Guerra Census

edited to add comment
In searching the Cleveland Obituary file for surname Guerra, I found this entry:
Id#: 0128079
Name: Guerra, Madalena
Date: Mar 7 1945
Source: Source unknown; Cleveland Necrology File, Reel #032.
Notes: Guerra, Madalena, wife of the late Cosimo, mother of Sam, Peter, Joseph, Rose Faranda, and Sara Peck, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered into rest Monday, March 5. Funeral from J. J. Vanek Inc. Funeral Home, 12705 Union ave., Thursday, March 8, at 9 a. m. and St. Cecilia's Church 10 a. m. Burial Calvary Cemetery.

Was Frank Guerra's actual name Cosimo Guerra?

After talking to Ray Faranda, it's the 1913 manifest that his father came in on through Boston. He knew that his father was 16 when he arrived, so 1913 would be that year.
