Census records for Waynesboro, TN

Post by say »

I am hoping that someone on this site can help me. I have researched my Mothers Italian side of the family, and now would like to try to find information on my fathers side. His family is from Waynesboro, TN - Wayne county. Does anyone have access to census records for that area that would be willing to see what they can find? My grandfather was James York and his wife was Manda, or Mandy McClain or McLean. I know they lived there from prior to 1900 to at least 1930. James was born in 1876, and his father was John York, but I do not know the name of his mother. I believe he was born in Waynesboro also. I know this is not Italian search, but I was not sure where else to go for help, so thank you! If needed, you can e-mail me at say5@earthlink.net

This is definitely them, thank you! as for the 1900 census, is there a page 2, by any chance? Also, is there a way to print these off? Are there census records prior to this? Sorry for all of the questions, but I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the help!

That's what I get for staying up past my bedtime...... :P
There IS a page two!!!

Printing them off is easy, just right click the image and save it to your computer.....from there you can print it off or burn it to CD.

There are census going back every 10 years to 1790 but the 1890 census was destroyed by fire, so there are few states available. The early census did not include written details of each name in the household, or even the relationship between those listed, but can still be useful.

We can check for earlier census on James and Manda, try to place them with parents, but would be speculative at best, as we don't know both the mother and fathers first names.........

Thank you again. I am looking at these records and have some questions if you can help, again.... On the 1900 census, can you read the column headings for #20, #25, and #27?
Also, any information you can find on the parents of Mandy and James would be great. I will check the others years census to see if there are more I cannot read.

Here are census forms that you can print out and fill in the blanks.....
I did this for easy reference, as well as keeping a copy of the original document on CD:

http://www.ancestry.com/trees/charts/census.aspx?

This way.....I can at least read the column headings and without glasses!!
